As part of its ongoing efforts to fund critical
research, the San Diego Chapter of JDRF will host the 13th annual
Promise Ball on Saturday, April 21, 2012 at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront
Hotel. Promise Ball 2012 – Into The Blue For A Cure will be an
outstanding evening featuring entertainment by Liquid Blue – awarded “America’s Best
Dance Band” at the National Music Awards. As part of the evening,
we will also honor a company and a family who have made a significant impact in
the lives of people with type 1 diabetes.
Since its founding in 1970, JDRF-funded research
has led to treatments and therapies that have significantly improved the
lives
of people with type 1 diabetes (T1D). Today, JDRF research is focused on
translating
the research advances we have achieved over the years into treatments
with the
potential to cure, treat and prevent T1D and its complications. JDRF
funding surpassed $115 million in 2011, supporting research throughout
the
world including $9.9 million for over 25 research projects right here in
San Diego. Already in 2012, JDRF has committed to funding at least
$8.5 million in grants, which support 19 T1D research projects.
